When and Where is Music in the Mountains?
Music in the Mountains 2017 will take place from July 9th-July 30th. The festivities are held in a spacious tent at the base of the Purgatory ski area. There will be nearby parking lots reserved for those attending the festival.
What Is the History of Music in the Mountains?
The origins of this annual event can be traced all the way back to the year 1987. Gathering the support from local organizations around Durango, Maestro Mischa Semanitzky pulled together a season of five concerts and eleven musicians. The event was an immediate hit and steadily grew from there, slowly evolving from its beginning as a summer concert series into a much larger festival that featured over 100 musicians, as well as additional musical education programs held throughout the year. The Music in the Mountains spans three weeks now and represents a wide range of musical styles.
