They sleep five to ten, run 1,008 to 3,250 square feet, and start at $116.67 a night. Most sit in and around Durango itself, a few are downtown, several are up at Purgatory, and the rest are spread out to Cascade Village, Bayfield, Electra Lake, Forest Groves and The Ranch. Many take dogs. Pick the corner of the valley first, then filter on everything else.

The layout is great for two families, allowing the kids to play upstairs while adults relax downstairs. The hot tub in the garage was a great addition to relax after a day on the slopes. The kitchen is well stocked. Last thing, the views are amazing! You can see the Needles Mountain range right out dining room windows and Engineer Mountain right out of the living room windows. The 3 bedrooms and two baths worked out great for our family. It is pet friendly with fenced in front and back yards which was perfect. The home is updated clean and located close to town. We walk in the morning for exercise and the area is very nice to walk.

Heavenly Daze truly lived up to its name! The photos honestly don’t even do this place justice. It was the perfect mountain getaway and such a peaceful place to relax and enjoy Colorado. Once you know the area, the second question is what kind of building you want to be in, and three bedrooms is the only count where all four answers are available. The houses cover the full range: 5th Avenue Cottage at 1,150 square feet downtown, Shadow’s Retreat at 3,250 on 35 gated acres, and Barndominium, Deer Trail, Junction House, Pine & Pond Retreat, Pine Ridge Views, River House, Spring Creek and Spring Creek 3 in between.
Townhomes are unusually well represented at this size, and Tall Tree Townhome belongs with them in everything but the label — it is filed under condos in our system. Black Bear Travertine and Casa Norte each pair a private garage with a fitness room and a shared pool. Alpenglow at Purgatory is a 3.5-bath end unit that sleeps nine. Animas River Trail Retreat is newly built with central A/C and a garage, and Twin Tree Townhome has a wood-burning fireplace and a Fire TV in every bedroom. We don’t run a page that filters to townhomes on their own, so this is where you’ll find them. Among the condos, Aspen Run at Cascade Village and Edelweiss 8 at Purgatory each come with a shared pool and hot tub.
On the cabin side, Bear Creek Canyon Cabin, Camp Middle Bear, Heavenly Daze and Spruce Mesa Cabin each have a private hot tub. Knotty and Nice Log Cabin trades the tub for a 3.5-acre lot among the Ponderosas in Rafter J. If a log cabin is the actual requirement rather than the bedroom count, our secluded Durango cabins and cabins on the river pages cut across every size.
Some three-bedroom listings carry no property type in our feed at all — Animas Valley View, Hidden Valley Farmhaus Retreat, Soaring Pines Retreat, Sojourn House and The Wren’s Nest among them. That means they never surface on a page filtered by house, cabin or condo. They surface on this one, which is a decent reason to shop by bedroom count rather than by building.

What's Within Reach From Each Corner
The spread that makes this bedroom count useful also means the drive times are not the same from one home to the next. From the downtown properties you are walking to Main Avenue for dinner and shopping, and the narrow gauge depot is on that same street. The ski-in ski-out units at Purgatory put you on the lifts without starting the car, and Spruce Mesa Cabin at Electra Lake is a five-minute drive to the resort — from town it is 25 miles and about 30 minutes, and Purgatory’s summer activities and bike park run into early October. The Durango-area homes sit between those two ends, most of them within a short drive of a San Juan National Forest trailhead. Out east, Bear Creek Canyon Cabin is 13 miles from Vallecito Lake and Pine Ridge Views backs onto state land. Mesa Verde is 36 miles and about 45 minutes west whichever home you book, and every cliff dwelling except Step House needs a Recreation.gov ticket — $8 a person, released on a rolling 14-day window at 8 a.m., and they sell out.

Which part of the Durango area should I book a three-bedroom in?
Decide that before anything else, because the drive between two of these homes can be half an hour. Downtown puts you a walk from Main Avenue and the narrow gauge depot. Purgatory and Cascade Village, 25 miles and about 30 minutes north, are the ski-season choice. The Durango-area neighborhoods — Rafter J, Pine Acres, Estancia, Taylor Ranch — trade the walk into town for space and a trailhead close by, and Bayfield and Electra Lake go further out again. How many guests does a three-bedroom sleep?
Between five and ten, depending on the property. Pine & Pond Retreat sleeps five, Casa Norte and Heavenly Daze each sleep ten, Alpenglow at Purgatory and Pine Ridge Views sleep nine, and most of the rest fall between six and eight. Check the guest count on the individual listing rather than assuming a three-bedroom holds six.

Which three-bedroom rentals take dogs?
Most of them do, and nearly all of the pet-friendly ones take two dogs rather than one. Pets are $25 per night each, capped at $200 per dog, for up to two dogs, and the charge is added to your reservation after you book.

Yes. 5th Avenue Cottage sleeps eight and is a few minutes' walk from downtown, Animas River Trail Retreat is a newly built townhome with central A/C and three full baths, and Spring Creek 3 is a modern farmhouse with a private hot tub that sleeps eight. Junction House is also close to downtown but takes stays of 30 days or more only.

Durango sits at 6,512 feet, so days run into the 80s and nights cool off sharply, and most homes without A/C are stocked with ceiling or portable fans. Can I book a three-bedroom for a month or longer?
Yes. Pine & Pond Retreat at The Ranch is a furnished monthly rental, Junction House takes 30-day-minimum stays, and Shadow's Retreat has a 14-day minimum. Our monthly rentals page lists everything available by the month across all bedroom counts.

Is a three-bedroom big enough for two families?
Often, yes, but it depends on the layout more than the bedroom count. Casa Norte sleeps ten with 2.5 baths and a sauna, Heavenly Daze sleeps ten, and Alpenglow at Purgatory sleeps nine with 3.5 baths. If you need more beds than that, our four, five and six-bedroom pages go up to 20 guests.

Do I need winter tires to reach the mountain properties?
From 1 September to 31 May, Colorado's Must Carry law applies to all of US-550 — the road north from Durango toward Purgatory — regardless of weather. Passenger vehicles need at least 3/16-inch tread on all-weather or M+S-rated tires, and the fine is $50 plus surcharge. It also covers US-160 from Walsenburg to the New Mexico border.

What do I do with trash at a rental on wooded acreage?
Use the container the property provides and keep food and pet food indoors. Durango is bear country, City Ordinance O-2018-6 makes it unlawful to let wildlife scatter trash, and properties in priority wildlife areas are required to keep wildlife-resistant containers. Any scattered trash must be cleared within 24 hours.

What deposit do you take?
A 50% deposit is due if your arrival date is more than 60 days away. Inside 60 days, payment is due in full at the time of booking.
