The Curry Barn was a lovely place to spend our family Christmas vacation and accommodated 12 people very comfortably. The historic architecture of the Curry home was captivating from the early American antiques throughout to the hand adzed beams in the structure. Elk Meadows Family Retreat
We had a wonderful weekend at Elk Meadows. Plenty of space for our group and a stocked kitchen that allowed us to prepare all meals at the house. The only drawback of the weekend was that it was too short, definitely going for a couple more days next time!

The barn is complete with every amenity you could require and is central to downtown Durango with a short drive but far enough out you see the stars at night which were epic. The kitchen and common area is where you spend 90% of family time and it’s perfect go force everyone to drop their cell phones and play good old card games and get back to basics. Solid family vacation place.. really enjoyed it.

Curry Barn — Sleeps 14
Curry Barn is a restored 1860s barn in Durango: six bedrooms, four bathrooms, 4,200 square feet, air conditioning, a private yard and a patio. It stocks a high chair and a pack-n-play, and starts at $500 a night, rated 4.7 from 27 reviews.
Elk Meadows Family Retreat — Sleeps 18
Elk Meadows Family Retreat puts six bedrooms and six bathrooms in 3,700 square feet on 20 acres above the Florida Valley, about 15 minutes from downtown Durango. It has a private hot tub, and adds a fire pit, a fireplace, a garage and air conditioning. From $800 a night.
Engineer House 487 — Sleeps 20
Engineer House 487 is the largest house we manage — 4,400 square feet, six bedrooms, six bathrooms, two living areas — in Engineer Village, two minutes from Purgatory Resort, with a community hot tub and pool and a resort shuttle. Add a wood-burning fireplace, a garage and a dedicated workspace. From $800 a night.

Booking Days Out for 14 to 20 People
A house this size changes how you book the days out, because the region’s headline attractions cap tour size. At Mesa Verde, every cliff dwelling except Step House needs a reservation and the tours have hard capacities: Cliff Palace takes 50 and Balcony House 35, but Long House is 30 and Square Tower and Mug House are 10 apiece — a full house of 20 will not fit on the two smallest. Tickets sell only through Recreation.gov, on a rolling 14-day window opening at 8:00 a.m. MDT, $8 per person, and they sell out. Park entry is $30 per vehicle, which adds up when your group arrives in four or five cars.
The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is the other one to book early: the Silverton round trip runs 2 May to 1 November, takes 9.25 hours, and starts at $118 adult, with no cell service through the Animas Canyon. And at Purgatory, two minutes from Engineer House 487, Power Kids gives 12-and-under free unlimited skiing with no purchase and no blackout dates — worth checking before you buy 20 lift tickets.

Can I bring a dog to a six-bedroom rental?
No. None of our six-bedroom homes accepts pets — every one is listed with a maximum of zero pets, so a dog cannot come to any of them. We do have pet-friendly homes up to five bedrooms, where the fee is $25 per night each, capped at $200 per dog, up to two dogs — see our pet friendly rentals.

How many people can stay in each house?
Curry Barn sleeps 14 in six bedrooms and four bathrooms. Elk Meadows Family Retreat sleeps 18 in six bedrooms and six bathrooms. Engineer House 487 sleeps 20 in six bedrooms and six bathrooms, the highest occupancy in the portfolio. Square footage runs 3,700 to 4,400.

Is there a hot tub?
Elk Meadows Family Retreat has a private hot tub. Engineer House 487 has access to a community hot tub and pool in Engineer Village. Curry Barn does not have a hot tub.

Do these houses have air conditioning?
Curry Barn and Elk Meadows Family Retreat list air conditioning; Engineer House 487 lists ceiling fans and portable fans instead. Durango sits at 6,512 feet, so days run into the 80s and nights are cool, and not every property here has A/C — check the Amenities tab on the listing.

Where does a group of 20 park, and do we need snow tires?
Each of our six-bedroom homes lists free parking, and Elk Meadows Family Retreat and Engineer House 487 each have a garage; you can also browse every one of our rentals with a garage. In winter every car in the group needs winter-rated tires, not just the first one: Colorado's Must Carry law runs 1 September to 31 May regardless of weather, covers all of US-550 and US-160 through Durango, and requires at least 3/16-inch tread on all-weather or M+S-rated tires. The fine is $50 plus surcharge.

What if we need something bigger, or a different size?
Six bedrooms is our largest bedroom count, and Engineer House 487 at 20 guests is the highest occupancy in the portfolio. For a group splitting across two houses, or a big floor plan at a lower bedroom count, see our large vacation rentals and family reunion rentals.

What deposit is required to book?
A 50% deposit is required if your arrival date is more than 60 days away. Inside 60 days, full payment is due at the time of booking.
