Historic Henry Strater Theatre
The theatre first opened in 1962 as the Diamond Circle Theatre and it has since entertained under a few different monikers. In 2008, the historic Strater Hotel purchased the playhouse, then known as Durango Melodrama & Vaudeville, and renamed it the Henry Strater Theatre. Now, it is known as one of the most prestigious theatres in the United States and boasts more than 50 years of performances.

Once you take your seat and the curtain opens, old-timey guitar solos and smooth vocals from local troubadour Greg Ryder recount the simplicity and timelessness of the Old West. Through cowboy tunes, skits, Cowboy poetry, and sing-alongs, you’ll get an entertaining history lesson. The performances are a tribute to the Old West, Colorado, and Durango’s Native American heritage.
The theater also hosts other acts throughout the year including a variety of bands and musicians, comedians, and even live performances of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Open year-round, the theatre also serves as a wonderful venue for private parties, meetings, and even weddings.
