This is a fun run that’s suitable for all ages and participants will have options to choose between routes that span 1 mile or 5 miles depending on preference. The annual Turkey Trot has been a staple event in Durango for nearly 30 years and has no intention of slowing down. It’s presented by Animas Surgical Hospital and all proceeds go to local charities. It’s a run visitors can enjoy and feel good about from start to finish!

Spend Some Time at the Thanksgiving Farmers Market

While there are always options to dine out on Thanksgiving Day in Durango, visitors who would prefer to serve up a traditional home-style meal can find the ingredients they need at the local Durango, Colorado Thanksgiving Market this time of year. This specialty market is hosted on November 19th with vendors setting up in the TBK Bank parking lot at 259 W. 9th Street. Come and browse a variety of local products including cheeses and meats as well as veggies, fruits, and even crafts! It’s a great place to prepare for the meal ahead or pick up early holiday shopping thanks to the many local artisans that are on-site to promote their wares.

Take a Ride on the Polar Express Train

Between November 18th and January 1st, visitors to Durango can enjoy a ride on the holiday classic Polar Express Train featured through the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. This magical ride includes a reading of the classic children’s book as well as servings of hot chocolate and treats along the way. It’s a great addition to a Thanksgiving itinerary for those heading to Durango with little ones in tow. Santa will also be onboard to help everyone get into the holiday spirit early!
