Take a Tour
There are three available tours at Durango Dog Ranch. The first is the introduction to mushing. This is the most family-friendly tour and begins at the base of Purgatory Resort. Tour costs $195 per sled. Each sled can fit two people, or up to 375 pounds. It is an extra $50 per child, not to exceed 375 pounds. The second tour option is a half-day tour in the San Juan Mountains. This tour is good for families with older children or anyone wanting an adventure. The cost of the tour is $400 per sled (two people or up to 375 pounds).
The final tour is a full day of mushing. You’ll be led deep into the National Forest by your own personal guide and the team of dogs. This tour costs $695 per sled, with one adult allowed per sled. This is not for the faint of heart: participants must be in good physical condition. The day will last about seven hours and they prefer you to have previous experience in mushing.
The Logistics
If you’ve decided that your next Durango, CO vacation must include a visit to the Durango Dog Ranch, there are a few things you should know. First, you should note that Durango Dog Ranch’s season begins in mid-November and lasts until early-April. During the season, the Introduction to Musing course is offered Thursday-Sunday, and the half-day tours are offered every day. But, the full-day mushing tours are only offered January through March. Reservations for these tours can be made online or by phone, and they are made per sled.
