Enjoy a Stroll in Durango

Durango is located within a landscape that boasts vast and mountainous terrain, but those who plan on spending the vast majority of their time downtown will find it extremely easy to walk everywhere you want to go. Downtown Durango hosts an inviting collection of shops and restaurants, all within a pedestrian-friendly area. The Animas River Trail runs through this area as well making a hike through town easily accessible.

Try the Durango Transit System

If you’re looking to explore Durango further, consider leaving the car behind and utilizing the Durango Transit System instead. This system is made up of buses and trolleys that move across the city using three main lines. Typically, buses and trolleys run between 7:00 am and 10:40 pm on weekdays. If you happen to be out exploring late, there’s a late-night weekend bus that runs on Fridays and Saturdays between 11:00 pm and 2:30 am.  The bus runs within city limits and the last bus leaves downtown at 2:10 am.

Use a Rental Car

If you’re looking forward to time exploring the mountains surrounding Durango by vehicle, the Durango Airport offers comprehensive rental car services that check every box on the transportation list. From Avis and Budget to Thrifty and Dollar Enterprise, travelers can pick and choose between vehicles that meet their budget limits. If you prefer to have a driver, Uber and taxi services leave from the airport as well.

Transportation as a Sightseeing Opportunity

One of the most scenic and fun ways to get around Durango is on the historic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. Operating in the area for over 120-years, this railway is one-of-a-kind and truly, an iconic way to see the best southwest Colorado has to offer. Be sure to book your ticket in advance and sit back to enjoy the ride.
