This organization has been working to advocate for clean air, pure water, and healthy lands and wildlife since 1986. All of these factors are crucial in creating communities, ecosystems, and economies in the San Juan Basin that are strong and resilient. The Backcountry Film Festival works as a fundraiser for the San Juan Citizens Alliance and further promotes the mission to protect local families and neighborhoods from unchecked oil and gas development. To date, the San Juan Citizens Alliance has over 100 due-paying members to its name in addition to a wide net of supporters across the nation and globe who care deeply about preserving the beauty of the San Juan Basin for generations to come.

This year, the Backcountry Film Festival in Durango is once again slated to showcase some incredible films that are sure to inspire and move audience goers. Surviving Our Story by Connor Ryan and Isaiah Branch Boyle is the longest running festival film at just over 26 minutes followed by Sven-Life in Front of the Lens by F4D Studio in collaboration with Gabe Rovick scheduled to run just over 16 minutes. The Power of Four by Forrest Barton will run for 15 minutes and 26 seconds followed by A line in the Snow at 14 minutes by Moose Media and Ryan Rumpca. On Thin Ice by Jonah Rafael Kalef Steinberg will treat audiences to nearly 9.5 minutes of cinematic art, while Nisei by Iz La Motte Productions and Sierra Schlag and Drawn In by Jessa Gilbert will both run around 7.5 minutes total. A Rose for All by Chris Kitchen and KGB Productions will entertain audiences for 6 minutes while films under 5 minutes on the lineup include Novelty Lines by Anthony Cupaiuolo and First Track Productions, The Glide by Luc Mehl, and Song of Ice by Arthur Kauffeisen.
