Inside a renovated 1904 Animas City School Building is The Animas Museum. This local attraction details the history of Durango, from the impact of local fires on the town to how Durango was first added to La Plata County. The main exhibit is the restored 1905 classroom, featuring slate blackboards and ornate desks. This attraction is the premier Durango historical museum and a great afternoon or rainy day activity with the kids!

Durango Silverton Train Museum

Durango Wildlife Museum and Fish Hatchery

Powerhouse Science Center

Formerly known as the Durango Discovery Museum, the Powerhouse Science Center is open from Wednesday to Monday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This attraction is located near the Animas River in a renovated coal-fired, steam-powered AC generating plant. The museum staff hopes to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. Whether you enjoy learning about science or you’re a parent wanting to enjoy an educational activity with your child, this attraction is fun for the whole family!
